The Firefly Appeal 2022

Dedicate a light on a Firefly on our beautiful outdoor display and celebrate the life of somebody special. With each light, you’ll be helping more local patients and their families through the most difficult of times. We would like to invite you to dedicate a light on a Firefly in our beautiful Firefly Woods, to celebrate the life of somebody special. Last year we had our first Firefly event, which was a huge success. Seeing so many Firefly’s glowing together, each one honouring a life, was a very moving sight for all those who came to see the installation, set in our beautiful Hospice woodland. This year, we would like as many people as possible to dedicate their own light on a Firefly – and then to join us for the opening celebrations during the early evenings of September 22 and 24. We would all be delighted if your light, shining out in honour of your loved one, could be there. The Fireflies are a beautiful and fitting way to honour somebody’s life and, in doing so, help those left behind to embark upon a journey of healing. This will be our second annual Fireflies event – and we hope it will be just as beautiful as the first. You’re invited to arrive at Dorothy House Hospice Grounds at 7pm, where you’ll be greeted by Hospice staff. Two short speeches will then be given by members of the Dorothy House team, and the evening will be accompanied by the beautiful notes of a harpist. When you dedicate a light we’ll send you a map, to find your own special light. These gatherings of local people, all of whom share the experience of a loved one dying, are offered free of charge. We’d love to see you there but, if you can’t make it, please be assured that you will be welcome to come and visit the Firefly Woods at any time after the launch events. The Firefly’s themselves do cost us money to maintain, and so we do ask all those who wish to dedicate a light on a Firefly to make a contribution that will cover these costs – and to also make a donation towards the cost of Dorothy House Hospice care if they can.
In giving a gift, you’ll be dedicating your own special light on our Firefly display for one year – at which point our team will contact you to ask if you would like to renew for a further year. On our website, you can watch the touching story of Sue and her daughter Jo, who we cared for at the Hospice right to the end of her life. Please, read her moving words if you can. Sue’s special light will be amongst the woodland; I hope yours will be there too.

We hope to see you in the woodland this September. To read Sue’s story and dedicate a light on a Firefly visiting: dorothyhouse.org.uk For further press information, please contact:
