Ushers Heritage Open Day
This prestigious event will take place on Heritage Open Days on Saturday 7th September at Parade House www.paradehousetrowbridge.co.uk, our beautiful Georgian townhouse built in 1720, which was formerly the headquarters ofUshers Brewery for most of the 20th Century, and recently voted the Best Event Venue in Wiltshire 2024.
Parade House will be open to the public FREE of charge on Saturday 7th September from 11am-4pm for a day of Celebration and civic pride, celebrating 200 years of Ushers Brewery, which had its humble beginnings in Trowbridge in 1824 only to become one of the most important businesses in Wiltshire over the next two centuries.
The day will be an exciting and nostalgic trip down memory lane as well as a chance to see inside this maginificent Grade 1 Listed townhouse.
Visitors will be met by the Trowbridge Town Crier and treated to a specially curated exhibition of Ushers Brewery memorabilia and photographs displayed throughout Parade House, with many items kindly on loan from members of the public and from Trowbridge Museum.
TV celebrity host of Flog It! Paul Martin, Head of Valuations of Henry Aldridge & Son Auctioneers will be greeting visitors in the Ballroom and offering free valuations of their Ushers memorabilia, or any items relating to Trowbridge or Wiltshire.
A specially commissioned short Film featuring interviews with former Ushers employees will be screened in our luxury Cinema in the historic vaults, and the Ushers Bar will be open all day for Refreshments.
The Parade House forecourt will be turned into a pop up beer garden by local brewery Kettlesmith, who will be creating a limited edition Ushers 2024 style Ale to mark the occasion. The forcourt will also feature an original 1946 restored Ushers lorry, complete with original wooden barrels, which will be brought in specially for the day.
The event will round off with a special evening Reunion Party for former Ushers Employees attended by the Mayor of Trowbridge.
This will be a hugely important event for Trowbridge and the surrounding areas, since Ushers was one of the major employers over a period of two centuries.
Ushers Brewery itself was situated directly to the rear of Parade House and its footprint of associated industries stretched throughout Trowbridge, the County Town of Wiltshire.
In 2001, the entire brewery plant was sold and shipped to North Korea to become the Taedonggang Brewing Company in North Korea’s capital Pyongyang https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=NepJc7h-mDg
Ushers Heritage Open Day is kindly being supported by Newland Homes, who have sympathetically built dwellings on the footprint of the former Ushers Brewery.
“Trowbridge is a very special place for Newland Homes and we’re very proud of the legacy we’ve built in the town including the redevelopment of the derelict former Ushers Brewery.
We’re very much looking forward to being part of the day, seeing the generaBons of former Ushers employees come together as well as others who will be discovering this integral part of Trowbridge’s history for the first Bme.” Jeremy Drew, Development Director for Newland Homes.
The Ushers Heritage Day will be open free of charge to the general public as part of the Heritage Open Days organised by the National Trust and is already drawing a considerable amount of interest as tickets are going fast.
Please note that due to its Grade1 Listed status, the Parade House is not wheelchair or pushair accessible as there is no lift.
