Celebrating Reme Corps 75th Birthday
at the New Reme Museum in Lyneham

REME Museum is delighted to be hosting REME Corps 75th Birthday commemorations on October 1st.  There will be a wide range of exciting activities and family events to mark this special occasion.

REME Museum is dedicated to telling the story of one of the British Army’s most essential Corps and opened to the public in 2017 at its new home at MoD Lyneham (former RAF Lyneham).  The Museum tells the story of the Corps of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, preserving its fascinating history from its formation in World War II through to the present day, and giving voices to REME men and women of the past and present.

No birthday would be complete without a birthday cake, although our cake will be giant-sized and REME-themed. It will be cut by one of the founder members of REME Corps, accompanied by one of our youngest serving Craftsman.

This fun day will provide plenty of activities for visitors to the Museum and the REME Corps community. These will include a children’s obstacle course manned by uniformed REME personnel along with lots of other sports activity stands where our visitors can pit their skills against some REME Reserves. We will have historic vehicles on display alongside more modern recovery vehicles and there will be Corps engineering displays.  We also will have a REME band and other spectacular surprises, to be announced.

Museum Director Major Rick Henderson said: “The Museum is proud to be able to host this very special birthday celebration. Throughout its history, REME has been at the heart of the Army’s operations worldwide, and we aim to showcase the Corps fine heritage with a whole range of fun activities for the public. It will be a day to remember.”
